Choo! Choo! It’s time to head to the zoo. Who will ride in the cars?
Eric Carle’s simple book, 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo is a fantastic introduction to counting for toddlers and preschoolers.
This 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo lapbook is a quick project that can be used over and over again for your little student.
I originally created this 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo lapbook for my youngest son to have some “school” to do while I was working with my older son. It’s a great way to keep your young student happy and constructive during school time.
This 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo lapbook promotes understanding quantities, counting (1-10), and it also uses fine motor skills to slip the animal cards into the pockets.
1, 2, 3 to the Zoo Lapbook Supplies
These supplies are needed for your 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo lapbook.
- one file folder
- scissors
- glue
- crayons (optional)
- laminator (optional)
1, 2, 3 to the Zoo Lapbook Directions
In order to put together your 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo lapbook, follow these instructions.
Open your file folder. Fold the right side to the middle. Fold the left side to the middle.
Cut out animals. Laminate if desired. Assemble pockets.
Have your preschooler color the wheels on the pockets, if desired.
Glue the cover to the outside of the file folder. You will need to cut it to fit the sides.
Glue pockets to the inside of the file folder.
You should be able to fit three pockets on each side and four pockets in the center for a total of ten pockets.
Let your student match the animals to the correct number pockets. Have fun with this and encourage lots of loud train noises and animal noises.
As an alternate activity, you can give your student the animal cards and let him count and match them to the pages of the 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo book.
